This paper attempts to focus on effects of the lean tools when applied in small enterprises particularly in manufacturing sector. In this competitive world, muda is to be reduced and the result therefrom is for better productivity and simultaneous cost-curtailment in production sphere of manufacturing. In this paper two tools of lean i.e., kaizen and why-why analysis have been applied over small manufacturing enterprise and its impact on the cost-effectiveness at the shop-floor of various component production has been analyzed to ascertain the lean concept which can be applied in the small enterprises for its betterment&making it competitive in the global market.Keywords

The Small scale manufacturing enterprises are facing critical problems while selling their products. As the SSE is not having huge financial backup and so they depend very much on the revenue earned after selling their product. The product sales can only increase if the manufactured product is meeting the desired level of standard of the customers' requirement. But actually it is not doing so. In this paper, we have tried to analyse the problems in the context of external obstacles to Quality by taking survey with the help of questionnaire for the SSE. If the external obstacles are addressed properly by the SSE, then they can remove the obstacles to quality to a large extent by changing them accordingly as per market demand.References

The small-scale enterprises are facing a stiff competition from the changing global environment. The obstacles for productivity in an enterprise are from both internal and external in nature. Internal obstacles are manageable by the in-house effort from SSE but external obstacles are influenced by various outreach parameters. The present paper tried to focus on effect of external obstacles on productivity through a case-study analysis and a methodology for productivity for its improvement. This paper emphasized to address the most significant external obstacles for productivity improvement under the changing global environment.

The small scale enterprises (SSE) involved in manufacturing are facing critical problems for marketing their products consistently. As the SSE is not having huge financial backup, they are helpless when unable to get repetitive order. Causes relating to this problem arc mostly either due to quality or productivity of the SSE. The product sales can only be continuous if the manufactured product is meeting the desired level of standard and quantity of the customer’s requirement. In this paper, effort has been made to analyse the problems in the context of Productivity-Quality relationship by applying lean tools in a small manufacturing unit. A mathematical model has been developed based on ranks of productivity and quality, which has been validated, by statistical test and requisite graphical presentation drawn for it as well. This shows if the quality of the product is increased, number of complaints is less and the productivity will increase automatically. This has been proved in this case study analysis under the assumption that whatever being produced is sold, there is a huge demand for the SSE products as well.
